A heavy iron stair rail curves along the edge of a stone landing in a Krakow tenement building during the summer evening. The dark metal surface reflects the warm amber glow of a nearby window, against the rough, gray texture of the aged stone steps. A small potted basil plant sits on the landing, its green leaves catching the fading natural light from the open window above. Dust motes drift slowly in the shaft of light that falls across the worn wooden floorboards near the base of the wall.
