Hohhot Sponge Pore Network Window Light

by Cathy Strong

Honeyed evening light pours through a frost-edged windowpane, illuminating the intricate cross-section of a natural sponge. The porous structure dominates the frame, its labyrinthine channels glowing with warm amber tones against a soft, out-of-focus background. Delicate condensation beads rest on the glass nearby, catching the low-angle sun and creating tiny prisms of light. The texture of the sponge appears fibrous and dry, against the damp chill suggested by the frost along the window edge. Early autumn shadows stretch across the surface, highlighting the depth of each cavity. A sharp line of frost on the glass edge defines the boundary between the warm interior and the cold outside.
