Hay Bales on Truck in Wet Season Ogbomosho
by Adrian Lyons
Dark, churned soil marks a tractor track beside a pickup truck loaded with rectangular hay bales. The wet season air hangs heavy as steady rain falls, turning the earth into a slick, dark brown surface. Water beads on the rough, straw-colored fibers of the stacked bales, which sit high in the truck bed. The sky above is a uniform, pale grey, diffusing the midday light into a soft, even glow that eliminates harsh shadows. Green foliage lines the field edge, appearing saturated and deep under the continuous downpour. The truck tires press into the mud, leaving deep, wet ruts that reflect the overcast sky. Raindrops ripple across the dark soil, creating a textured pattern of small, silver circles. at the edge is the way water runs in thin, clear streams down the side of the nearest hay bale, dripping onto the metal fender below.
