Hand Turning Pages of Weathered Journal by Candlelight
by Lillian Head
Warm candlelight pools across the rough, gray concrete of a pier railing in Matola, illuminating a weathered journal resting flat against the surface. A hand enters the frame from the bottom right, fingers pressing down on a page to turn it over. The paper is thick and cream-colored, showing signs of age with soft, rounded corners and faint discoloration along the edges. To the left, a glass surface sits close to the light, its exterior coated in thick, beaded condensation that catches the flickering glow. The night sky above is a deep, uniform black, against the intimate circle of orange illumination. The texture of the wood beneath the journal is visible, worn smooth by years of exposure, while the condensation droplets slide slowly down the glass pane.
