Grain Silo Home Under Winter Moonlight
by Philip Poole
Cold moonlight washes the cylindrical grain silo converted into a residence, its corrugated metal surface reflecting a stark, silver sheen against the deep blue of the night sky. The structure stands isolated along a service road where heavy industrial pipes run parallel to the ground, their dark forms vanishing into the shadows. Bare winter branches of nearby trees scratch at the upper rim of the silo, stripped of all leaves by the dead of winter. One warm yellow light glows from a small, rectangular window near the base, against the overwhelming cool tones. The ground is hard and dusty, marked by tire tracks that lead away from the structure. The moon casts long, sharp shadows from the pipes across the road, showing the utilitarian scale of the building against the empty landscape. The texture of the rusted metal is rough and pitted, catching the faintest glint of starlight.
