Gloves Drying on Heater in El Paso Square

Hard coastal glare washes the public square, turning the late-afternoon air into a shimmering haze. A small metal heater sits on the pavement, its surface radiating heat that curls the edges of thick rubber gloves draped over the top. The gloves, stiff from sleet, hang limp as moisture evaporates into the dry early summer air. Beside the heater, paper leaflets skitter across the concrete, caught in sudden gusts that ripple their printed surfaces. The scene anchors itself in civic duty, with the equipment resting against the backdrop of a sun-baked plaza. One shadow stretches long across the ground, defining the sharp angle of the sun.
