Glass Float Netted Rope Pier Ceiling in on a pier railing near Mit Ghamr

Glass Float Netted Rope Pier Ceiling

by Graham Dunn

A hand-blown glass fishing float rests against a weathered wooden dock wall, its surface polished to catch soft, diffused highlights from the late morning sky. Thick hemp rope coils around the sphere, framing it in a centered composition. Above the float, the ceiling of the pier dissolves into a dense canopy of giant, suspended oranges and brass lanterns, their shadows falling sharply across the wood grain. The massive fruit and lanterns hang in a tight grid, creating a surreal canopy that dwarfs the small scale of the float. Dust motes drift in the light beams between the glass and the giant fruit, showing the impossible proximity of the sky elements to the dock surface.
