Geylang Mangrove Estuary Low Tide Afternoon Glare in near Geylang, Singapore

Geylang Mangrove Estuary Low Tide Afternoon Glare

by Jude Stevens

Hard coastal glare strikes the exposed mudflats of a Singaporean mangrove estuary near Geylang, turning wet sediment into a patchwork of dark brown and shimmering grey. Aged, twisted prop roots anchor the slender trees, their bark rough and textured against the pale sky. The water has receded completely, leaving deep fissures in the earth that catch the late afternoon light. Humid air hangs heavy, visible as a slight haze softening the distant treeline. The scene is still, with no movement in the wind-sculpted foliage. One pool of brackish water in the foreground reflects the jagged silhouette of a mangrove trunk, its surface rippled by a faint breeze.
