Fossil Excavation in Chinatown Singapore Golden Hour
by Laurie Lara
Rich amber sunlight floods a narrow excavation pit, illuminating dust particles suspended in the humid air of a Singapore Chinatown alley. A researcher's hand holds a fine brush against a partially unearthed fossil embedded in dark, wet monsoon clay. The stone surface gleams with moisture, contrasting against the dry, powdery soil. Behind the excavation, weathered brick walls and traditional shopfront shutters frame the scene. Metal housings of nearby utility boxes catch the low sun, their surfaces reflecting sharp points of orange and red light. Indicator LEDs on the metal cast small, steady blue and green dots onto the damp earth. The brush bristles are splayed slightly, pressing gently into the sediment. One shadow from a bamboo pole stretches across the fossil, marking the precise angle of the setting sun.
