Fisherman Hauls Gill Net From Wooden Dory at Dawn
Low winter sun pierces the horizon haze, casting long, sharp shadows across the village lane near Szeged. A fisherman, viewed from behind, stands in a weathered wooden dory, his arms raised as he pulls a heavy gill net. The net's fine mesh glows with a pale, silvery light against the deep blue of the early morning sky. Dramatic, textured clouds stack above, their undersides bruised purple while the tops catch the first gold of the day. The fisherman wears a thick, dark wool coat and a cap, his posture conveying the physical effort of the haul. Frost rests on the gunwales of the boat, and the rough grain of the wooden planks is visible where the sunlight hits directly. The wet rope glistens as it moves from the water into the air, ending in a tangle of white foam on the deck.
