Cold dawn light spills over wet concrete and steel beams at a North Carolina construction site before sunrise. A red metal first-aid cabinet hangs mounted beside the framed building shell, its surface slick with light drizzle. Inside the open door, white paperwork rests against rows of medical supplies, while a hammer and safety vest lie on the damp ground below. Early winter air settles on the gray steel framework, leaving no footprints on the slick surface. Water droplets bead along the cabinet's lower hinge and run down the vertical wooden studs. The red paint contrasts sharply with the muted tones of the wet wood and steel surrounding the open door.
