Dawn Ration Heater at South Korea Checkpoint

Cold silver light floods the checkpoint lane as autumn wind whips loose leaves across the asphalt. A gray ration heater box sits in the foreground, its metal surface reflecting the pale morning sky. The box is positioned slightly left of center, framed by the rule of thirds against a backdrop of concrete barriers and distant trees showing muted orange and brown foliage. Mist clings low to the ground, obscuring the base of the barriers. The metal of the heater shows scratches and scuff marks from use. Faint steam rises in thin, straight lines, caught in the biting air. A small plastic packet rests beside the box, its colors dull in the low light. The edges of the heater box cast sharp, dark shadows that stretch toward the right, defining the harsh geometry of the morning.
