Yellow work lamps cast a harsh, localized glow on a metal shelf bolted to a scaffold frame, illuminating cans of firestop sealant against the deep blue-grey of a Yorkshire morning. Thin fog rests on the wet steel beams, softening the edges of the construction rigging while rain-slicked surfaces reflect the artificial light. The cans sit in neat rows, their labels worn by weather and handling, resting on a shelf that shows scratches and dried mortar. Shadows stretch long across the planks, hiding the lower scaffolding in darkness while a rim of pale dawn light outlines the top rail. The wet metal gleams where the lamp beam hits, against the matte, rain-dampened wood of the work platform.
