The cool stillness before sunrise casts a soft, gray light over a marine science field station in San Diego, California. The structure, built with mid-century concrete and glass, sits directly over clear tidal water, its reflection rippling gently in the calm bay. A trellis of sweet pea in pastel shades climbs the wooden support beams on the left, adding a touch of organic softness to the industrial lines. One work stool rests on the concrete dock, unoccupied, facing the horizon where the sky begins to lighten. The quiet transition of morning, with the station standing as a functional outpost against the vast, empty water.
