Festival Drum in Lubumbashi Monsoon Blue Light

Steel-blue twilight washes over a large, weathered drum resting on a stone plinth in a Lubumbashi public square. Low monsoon clouds hang heavy, diffusing the fading daylight into a cool, uniform glow. Wisps of white incense smoke curl upward from a small bowl beside the drum, catching the dim light before dissipating into the damp air. The drum's wooden surface shows deep cracks and faded red pigment, hinting at repeated use in previous gatherings. Behind the instrument, the square stretches into shadow, lined with rows of empty metal chairs and faint outlines of distant buildings. A wet sheen on the pavement reflects the blue sky, while the smoke trails drift horizontally, suggesting a gentle breeze. The edge of the drum's rim catches a final highlight against the darkening background.
