Soft overcast light falls through rain-streaked glass, illuminating the piercing gaze of a faro dealer seated in a dim Toyama saloon. The subject's eyes reflect the muted green glow of an eyeshade lamp, against the deep mahogany wood of the card table. Peak autumn is visible through the window where wet leaves rest on the frame, their crimson hues blurred by the light drizzle outside. Fine lines around the eyes suggest years of focus, while the texture of the worn leather chair presses against the subject's shoulders. Droplets trace slow paths down the windowpane, distorting the gray afternoon sky into shifting patches of light. at the edge is the sharp glint of a card back caught in the green shadow of the shade.
