A Chicago L train car glides past a mist-shrouded platform at dawn, its stainless steel flank reflecting the amber glow of a nearby streetlamp. The heavy fog softens the industrial grit of the elevated tracks, turning the steel girders into pale ghosts against the gray sky. On the wet concrete bench in the foreground, a chipped blue enamel wash basin sits abandoned, its surface stained with dried coffee rings and a single withered blackberry. Raindrops bead on the metal rim, mirroring the blurred red tail lights of a distant taxi on the street below. The quiet exhaustion of the city waking up, where domestic debris meets transit infrastructure under the weight of early morning dampness.
