Dog Pausing in Rome

Under the sodium glow of a Via del Corso streetlamp, a late-night delivery rider pauses beside a closed pharmacy, his Lapponian Herder standing patiently on the cobblestones. The dog’s thick grey fur catches the harsh overhead light, against the smooth, dark pavement. The rider checks a small digital thermometer clipped to his vest, the screen’s cool blue light reflecting in the wet glass of the shop window behind him. A faded doormat lies slightly askew at the threshold, damp from the evening drizzle.
