Bright winter noon light slices through the open doorway of a cramped Miraflores corner store, casting a sharp, bright stripe across the worn terrazzo floor where a small, scruffy terrier pauses mid-step, its shadow merging with the sunbeam. Inside, the narrow aisle is choked with stacked cardboard boxes and hanging plastic bags of snacks, creating a cluttered tunnel of commerce. A customer in a heavy wool coat reaches for a glass sugar jar on a high shelf, their hand brushing against a rowing boat model displayed in the window behind them, a surreal tourist souvenir amidst the daily grocery run.
