A sweeping beam of white light cuts through the dark, wet terraces of a Laos garden at midnight. Tall crimson amaryllis flowers rise sharply from dark soil, their waxy petals glistening with heavy raindrops. The beam illuminates the sturdy green stems and the vivid red blooms while the background terraces dissolve into soft, out-of-focus green blurs. Water rests on the leaf surfaces, reflecting the stark artificial glow against the deep shadows between the rows. Droplets rest on the lower leaves, and a wet sheen covers the garden paths beside the illuminated plants.
