Flat municipal daylight floods the stone floor of a community center hall in Changsha during early autumn. A heavy wooden map case slides open to reveal detailed parcel charts pinned inside. The charts display grid lines and handwritten annotations in black ink against cream paper. Lamplight settles softly into the upper corners of the room, casting warm pools against the cool gray stone walls. The low angle emphasizes the height of the case and the texture of the aged wood grain. Shadows stretch long across the floor tiles. A brass handle gleams on the side of the case, catching the ambient light.
