Bright midmorning sunlight illuminates a riverside workspace in Douala where a ceramicist spins a tall wet clay vase on a wheel. Thick ground fog pools in the low depressions of the muddy earth beside the spinning wheel, while the rest of the area remains clear. The clay surface gleams with moisture, reflecting the pale sky above. Beside the wheel, scattered tools rest on a weathered wooden plank. The empty expanse of water stretches behind the solitary figure. One shadow from the clay vase stretches sharply across the wet ground near the base of the vessel.
