The trunk serves as a bedside table in a quiet room in Kigali, where the dry season has left the air clear and the light steady. Dim window light mixes with the warm glow of interior lamps, casting long, quiet shadows along the walls. Reflections shimmer on the dark, smooth lacquer, mirroring the metallic edges of the coins and the rounded shoulder of the vase.
