Carved Gourd Rattle on Museum Plinth Beirut
by Amy Hoover
Copper-toned light spills across a hand-carved gourd rattle resting on a smooth, pale museum plinth in Downtown Beirut. The dried gourd surface shows deep, intricate incisions that catch the low sun, revealing textures of matte earth tones ranging from tan to burnt sienna. Behind the object, the minimalist background fades into shadow where lamplight begins to settle in the corners, creating a soft gradient of darkness against the warm foreground. The arid texture of the gourd's skin reflects the dry season conditions. A small cluster of dried seeds rests inside the hollow vessel, visible through a carved opening at the base. The shadow of the gourd falls sharply to the left, defining its round form against the flat stone surface.
