Sunlight floods a sun-drenched courtyard in Milan’s Navigli district, illuminating a patch of worn terracotta paving where a tabby cat sleeps curled beside a rusted metal gate. Beyond the cat, a narrow alleyway opens to a street lined with pastel-painted buildings, their facades marked by peeling plaster and wrought-iron balconies. A woven basket sits overturned near a doorway, spilling dried herbs onto the stone, while a pair of well-worn leather sandals rests nearby. In the distance, the curved roof of a church dome rises above the dense canopy of plane trees, casting long, sharp shadows that stretch across the courtyard.
