Cat in Milan at Noon Light

A heavy winter fog diffuses the noon light over a narrow Milanese alley, softening the sharp edges of damp brickwork and peeling stucco. A small calico cat crouches on a rusted iron window sill, its fur bristling against the chill as it watches a delivery cyclist navigate the slick cobblestones below. The cyclist, bundled in a thick wool scarf and dark coat, leans into a turn, his tires kicking up a fine mist from the wet pavement. Below, a weathered wooden door bears the marks of years of use, with scratches rimming a faded blue paint job that hints at the building’s age.
