Calico Dress Forms Under Rehearsal Lights

Tightly framed calico-wrapped dress forms stand in rows beneath the harsh glow of runway rehearsal lights. The rough, unbleached fabric rests on the curved mannequin torsos, secured by strips of translucent tracing tape that catch the light in sharp, linear highlights. Behind the forms, dramatic wet-season clouds press low against the darkening sky, their heavy grey tones filtering through the studio windows. The artificial illumination creates deep shadows between the wooden frames, showing the texture of the burlap and the smooth plastic of the tape. Dust motes float in the beams of light, settling on the unfinished garments. The final strip of tape peels slightly at the edge of a shoulder, revealing the raw fabric beneath.
