Brutalist Government Building Monsoon Light Delhi in inside a glass-roofed arcade in Hauz Khas, Delhi

Brutalist Government Building Monsoon Light Delhi

by Matthew Savage

Raw concrete walls define a glass-roofed arcade where tropical midmorning sun floods the space. Thick structural columns cast sharp, geometric shadows across the polished stone floor, which glistens with moisture from the recent monsoon rain. The heavy gray surfaces of the Le Corbusier-inspired architecture contrast with the bright, diffused light filtering through the overhead glazing. Distant greenery peeks through the open sides of the arcade, adding a splash of vibrant vegetation against the industrial gray. Water droplets rest on the lower edges of the glass panes, refracting the sky. One puddle near the base of a pillar reflects the overhead beams, anchoring the space in the humid air.
