Brutalist Stair Hall with Mirrored Reflections

by James Velez

Raw concrete surfaces define a stair hall where bold geometric forms meet soft, diffused daylight filtering through heavy overcast skies. Tiled steps create a rhythmic pattern under the feet, while polished stone walls reflect the opposing architecture into a symmetrical composition. The early spring light remains flat and even, eliminating harsh shadows to reveal the texture of the exposed aggregate and the smooth finish of the tiles. A central void pulls attention upward, where the mirrored angles of the concrete balustrades overlap to create a striking visual contrast between the heavy mass of the structure and the delicate play of light. at the edge shows a faint, cool reflection of the sky on the glossy floor tile at the bottom of the flight.
