Bright late-afternoon sun cuts through high windows of the Shorouk library reading room, illuminating a boxer skipping rope on a polished wooden floor. The humid monsoon air leaves soft reflections on the glass surfaces of nearby bookshelves and tables. Hard-edged shadows stretch across the room from the subject's rhythmic movement. Stacks of books line the walls in deep mahogany and cream tones, against the athletic wear of the figure. Dust motes hang in the shafts of light, suspended above the reading desks. The rope blurs in motion against the stillness of the paperbacks and leather bindings. A shadow of the jumping rope falls sharply across an open dictionary page.
