Blue hour settles over a Cambridge rowhouse stoop, where the streetlamp’s amber spill catches the wet brick and a brass boot scraper mounted beside the heavy oak door. A neighbor in a dark wool coat pauses, one boot already raised, using the scraper to dislodge slush before stepping inside. The metal glints with a sharp, cold highlight against the muted grey pavement, while steam rises faintly from a nearby grate, mixing with the chill air. Through the frosted glass of the entryway, the warm yellow glow of a hallway light spills out, illuminating a hanging towel hook and the shadow of someone waiting within.
