Basil Pot Silhouette Against Wet Season Light
by Anne Chapman
Late afternoon sun falls through the dense canopy of the terraced garden plots in Queensland, casting dappled shadows across a dark terracotta pot holding a basil plant. The subject stands silhouetted against the bright, humid sky, its leaves trembling visibly in the whipping wind of the wet season. Rain-slicked surfaces reflect the fading golden light, while droplets rest on the serrated edges of the foliage. The soil in the pot appears dark and saturated, against the vibrant green stems that reach toward the light. The background dissolves into a blur of green terraces, showing the plant's solitary presence in the storm. A final drop of water slides down the rim of the pot, landing on the wet sill below.
