Harsh white municipal floodlights illuminate the open trunk of a van parked beneath a government building in Khartoum. Rows of sturdy ballot boxes sit inside, strapped shut with thick dark webbing. Their surfaces reflect the wet pavement below, where recent rain has created a slick mirror. Dramatic clouds churn in the deepening violet sky above, marking the turn of seasons. The curb and the van's alignment form leading lines that draw the eye directly to the secured cargo. Metal latches on the boxes glint with moisture against the dark interior. A clear path of water traces down the side of the nearest box, ending at the edge of the bumper.
