Deep indigo twilight fills the window frames of a breakfast nook, against the amber glow of two flickering candles. Two upholstered armchairs face each other across a low wooden table where a chess set rests in sharp focus. The room holds the quiet stillness of late autumn, hinted at by the heavy, textured weave of the chair fabrics and the muted tones of the surrounding walls. Soft candlelight casts long, dancing shadows that stretch across the table surface, illuminating the grain of the wood and the white and black pieces. A cool blue wash from the evening sky falls across the floorboards, meeting the warm firelight at the edge of the rug. at the edge is the subtle reflection of a candle flame shimmering on the polished surface of a chess piece.
