Aurora Pillars Rising Over Russian Alpine Winter Night in from a quiet alpine saddle in Russia

Aurora Pillars Rising Over Russian Alpine Winter Night

by Don Brooks

Vertical columns of emerald and pale violet light stretch directly upward from the northern horizon, piercing the deep indigo sky above a snow-covered alpine saddle. Gentle snowflakes drift downward in the starlit air, catching the faint glow of the aurora to create a soft, shimmering haze. The ground is blanketed in thick, undisturbed white snow that reflects the subtle violet hues from above. Dark, jagged peaks frame the lower edges of the sky, silhouetted against the luminous curtains. The light appears solid and structured, standing rigid against the falling snow. One bright star hangs just above the tallest pillar, its white point contrasting sharply with the greenish-blue vertical bands.
