Artisan in Tunis at Dusk Light
by Rhonda Hall
A wet, narrow alley in the Medina of Tunis glows under the sodium orange of a fading dusk, rain slicking the terracotta paving stones. A local artisan, his face obscured by a hooded jacket, pauses beside a doorway, his hand resting on a brass gate handle that gleams with recent polish. Beneath his feet, a discarded mosaic tile fragment lies half-buried in a puddle, its cobalt blue reflecting the streetlamp’s spill. Nearby, a shopkeeper’s wooden fruit crate sits stacked against the wall, damp and dark, while steam rises from a small espresso cup left on a low stone ledge, condensation beading on the white ceramic.
