Cool morning light falls through the narrow gap between two weathered concrete buildings in Osaka, casting a sharp, diagonal stripe of pale yellow across the damp gray pavement of a back alley. A shopkeeper in a faded indigo work apron stands by a low wooden counter, carefully arranging bright blue hydrangeas in a white ceramic bowl, the flowers’ saturated blue and purple hues against the muted urban tones. Beside the flowers, a woven laundry basket sits empty on a step, its texture rough against the smooth stone. A white towel edge drapes over a rusted metal rail nearby, catching the soft light.
