Adjusting Slippers in Guadalajara

Rain-slicked cobblestones reflect the amber glow of a streetlamp outside a modest Guadalajara workshop, where a tailor sits on a low stool, adjusting a pair of worn leather slippers on a wooden form. Beside him, a broom leans against a stack of folded fabrics, its bristles damp from the recent downpour. A small table holds a needle case and loose thread loops, catching the dim light, while a blue and white porcelain jar sits nearby, its glaze speckled with age. Through the open doorway, potted geraniums wilt slightly under the grey sky, their red petals against the wet pavement. A quiet moment of labor, the rain softening the edges of the urban landscape.
