A pair of weathered work gloves rests on the rough-hewn wooden edge of a fence post in South Austin. The low golden sun casts long, sharp shadows across the dry grass and scattered limestone rocks nearby. Dust motes dance in the warm light that highlights the frayed stitching and dirt-caked palms of the leather. One red mesquite leaf rests on the thumb of the left glove, catching the fading daylight.
