A pair of worn leather work gloves rests on the rough concrete step of a shophouse in George Town, Malaysia, during the cool early morning. The pale blue light of dawn illuminates the dust settled in the deep creases of the leather and the frayed edges of the cuffs. Behind the gloves, the dark wood of a half-open shutter casts a long, sharp shadow across the weathered surface. One green leaf from an overhead tree lies motionless near the thumb of the right glove.
