Woman Waiting in Brussels

Rain blurs the neon reflections of a Brussels tram stop, casting streaks of electric blue and amber across the wet pavement. A young woman in a translucent yellow raincoat leans against the glass shelter, her breath fogging the pane as she checks her phone. Inside the shelter, a discarded orange peel curls on a small metal bench, its bright rind against the dull grey of the wet concrete. A tree with sparse autumn leaves stands just outside, its branches dripping water onto the cobblestones below. The quiet solitude of urban life in the rain, with the city lights reflecting off the wet surfaces.
