Window Interaction in Brussels
by Bette Perez
Under the bruised violet light of a Brussels blue hour, a corner café window reflects the wet cobblestones of the Rue du Chêne. Inside, the warm tungsten spill illuminates a cluttered service counter where a brass bottle opener rests against a stack of folded napkins, next to a half-empty glass tumbler sweating with condensation. A customer in a dark wool coat leans forward, engaging with the barista who is wiping down the counter with a rough cloth. Outside, the reflection of a passing tram glides across the glass, merging with the interior’s amber glow. The quiet intimacy of evening service, anchored by the tactile presence of the metal opener and the steam rising faintly from a nearby kettle.
