Warm late afternoon light spills across the wrought-iron balcony of a historic Creole townhouse, illuminating a chaotic cluster of domestic life. A white dog rests on a woven mat, its fur glowing amber in the sun, while nearby, a stack of paperbacks leans precariously against a terracotta planter. The railing, painted in peeling white enamel, frames a view of the street below where a folding ruler lies discarded on the concrete step, perhaps left by a repairman. Above, the crazed majolica glaze of a decorative tile catches the light, adding a splash of electric blue to the earthy tones.
