Raincoats in saturated neon yellow and orange hang heavy and wet on a rusted clothesline strung between two weathered timber posts in a narrow Wellington laneway. The overcast winter light flattens the color palette, showing the slick sheen of the nylon against the rough, grey-brown corrugated iron of a nearby workshop wall. Below, a pair of muddy garden shears rests on a concrete step, their blades slightly open, surrounded by scattered brown leaves and damp moss. The practical clutter of a working residential area, where the bright synthetic colors of the drying gear contrast sharply with the muted, earthy tones of the aged infrastructure and wet pavement.
