Wet Clay in Istanbul

A street-side ceramicist in Kadıköy works under a flat, overcast sky, his hands coated in wet slip as he centers a lopsided vessel on a spinning wheel. Beside him, a stack of unfired bowls waits in the damp air, their matte glaze absorbing the diffuse light without reflection. A heavy wrench rests casually on a nearby crate of clay, its steel dull against the earthy tones. In the background, the blurred shapes of passing ferries and the rigid geometry of Bosphorus bridges provide a stark industrial contrast to the organic, messy work on the table.
