A weathered red doormat sits flat on the concrete stoop of a Los Angeles bungalow, absorbing the harsh, shadowless light of midday. The coarse coir fibers are tangled with dry dust and small twigs, creating a textured surface that contrasts with the smooth, pale pavement. Behind the mat, the bottom edge of a heavy wooden door is visible, featuring a brass kick plate that reflects the bright sky.
