Water Quality Test in Alberta Ranch Corral
by Erica Wall
Silvery winter light falls through the open sides of a rustic ranch corral in Alberta, illuminating a water-medicator test cylinder resting on a wooden surface. Dust motes hang suspended in the pre-dawn air, catching the glow from a nearby parlor lamp that spills warm light across galvanized steel reagent bottles and a coiled rubber hose. Paper charts with handwritten data lie flat beside the equipment, their edges slightly curled. Straw scattered on the ground creates a textured foreground, while a thin layer of ground fog pools in the shadows between wooden posts. Leading lines formed by the corral rails guide toward the testing setup. The cold blue of the morning contrasts with the amber glow of the artificial light. A drop of clear liquid rests on the rim of the glass cylinder, reflecting the dim barn interior.
