Vendor Serving in Jaipur
by Tina Chang
The violet dusk settles over a narrow alley in Jaipur, illuminating a small roadside tea stall where a vendor tends a large steel pot. Steam rises in soft, translucent plumes, catching the blue ambient light and drifting past hanging strings of red chilies and bright orange marigolds. A chipped enamel plate sits on a corrugated metal counter, reflecting the faint glow of a single bulb above. In the background, the pink sandstone facade of a traditional haveli fades into the twilight, its carved jali windows visible against the darkening sky. A few customers stand near a wooden spindle chair, waiting for their cups, while the street remains quiet and cool under the fading light.
