Pale morning light spills across the ochre stucco of a narrow souk alley, illuminating a vendor’s workspace where a ceramic tagine pot sits beside a stack of white porcelain plates. A stray cat with dusty gray fur crouches on the rough stone threshold, eyes fixed on a pigeon pecking at spilled grains near the vendor’s sandals. Soap streaks run down the adjacent tile wall, evidence of recent washing, while a faded tea towel hangs limp from a hook.
