Vendor just after sunrise in Jaipur
by Ellis Ali
Pale morning light washes over the pink sandstone facade of a Jaipur haveli, revealing intricate jaali screens and weathered wooden doors. On the dusty street below, a street vendor tends to a small charcoal stove, the blackened sticks protruding from a metal bucket as he prepares tea for the waking city. A cluster of pigeons scatters across the uneven pavement, kicking up fine dust that hangs in the soft, diffused air. In the distance, the curved dome of a temple rises against the brightening sky, while a lone kite drifts lazily above the rooftops. The quiet transition from night to day, with the warm stone tones contrasting against the cool gray of the early morning light.
